Summary
Manawatu Muffler Centre has completed the Sustainability Business Programme 2011. We have always had a social conscience and this has been explored even more by completing this course. It is the responsibility of our generation to leave the planet in the best possible condition for the next. This course has resulted in many changes within our business and made us far more aware, with a small amount of planning, what can be achieved to create a lean, confident, healthy sustainable business model.
• Working towards lowering our paper waste by online ordering and statements
• Replacing our big industrial fridge with a smaller version
• Putting recycling measures in place for paper and packaging
• Cutting back on emissions from fossil fuels uses in vehicles
• We have increased our efficiency in the workshop by getting all our consumables once a month in one trip out. This has dropped our workshop fuel costs by 35%
• We now use an environmentally friendly had soap which is biodegradable
• Saving power by introducing sky lights
• Reusing and recycling where possible
Meeting people’s needs
• Involving staff in budget setting and targets
• Up skilling our staff to remain at the top of their game
• Active supporters of community events and local charities through sponsorships and donations particularly in youth
• Streamlining all aspects of our business has made us more efficient and we are now proactive rather than reactive
• Consolidating our ordering processes to reduce our carbon footprint
• Purchasing efficiencies
• Diversification to use our current premises, staff and equipment
